Meet the Pianist

Sara Tracy

Age: 17

Sara’s repertoire includes Bach, Beethoven, Burgmüller, Clementi and contemporary composers such as Andrea Dow and Jennifer Eklund. She loves pop infused classical pieces and works a lot on that style of music. Sara has been a student of Jacqui’s for 10 years! She has participated in most of her recitals and has participated in two monster festivals put on by the MaineMTA. She enjoys playing duets with her grammy and cousins.

Sara is a part of the Standish Congregational Church, where Jacqui served as Minister of Music from 2008-2017. She sang in Jacqui’s Youth Choir and took lessons with her in Standish early on. When Jacqui left the church in 2017 Sara continued lessons with her by traveling to Falmouth each week from Standish (where her home is).

1. How long have you played the piano?

10 Years

Preparing for Summerjam 2021

3. What is your favorite part of your piano study?

My favorite part is playing music I enjoy such as modern pop music. I also love collaborating with others! I enjoy learning duets for the Monster Festival every other year, learning duets for recitals and ensembles recitals and also playing duets with my grandma

4. Do you enjoy performing?  /What do you get out of performing?

I enjoy performing with other people and collaborating with others rather than performing by myself. I have noticed that the more I perform though, the less nervous I am.

5. How often do you practice?  What is your practice routine?

I try to practice for 30-45 minutes a day. If I have a busy week I will practice 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes at night.

6. What kind of music do you listen to?  Who are your favorite artists/composers?

I like to listen to older music such as Billy Joel, Queen and others from that time period. I also enjoy pop and rap music. I lOVE Taylor Swift!!

7. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting to study the piano?

I went through a time when I was struggling with practice and enjoying playing but ultimately did stick with it. After awhile I began to enjoy the practice and playing again and this time even more than before! Studying the piano has its ups and downs so don’t give up when you are at a low. Push through the hard parts of your study because it will be worth it.

8. What are some other likes and dislikes you have? Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I love to ski, vacation, shop and be with friends. I play soccer 10-11 months of the year. I don’t like High School and can’t wait to graduate and go to college. I plan to continue to play the piano on my own through college and for the rest of my life.

“I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.”
— Billy Joel
